Living the Hong Kong Dream… Sustainably?
I just spent over two incredible weeks in Hong Kong, and wow, what a city! Walking through the bustling streets, towering skyscrapers, and vibrant neighborhoods, I couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like to actually live and work here. There’s something magnetic about the pace, the energy, and the mix of cultures.

Of course, as someone who’s passionate about sustainability, I was also looking beyond the shiny ( and full of lights) façade. I have to say, Hong Kong surprised me. I LOVED it! From their urban farming initiatives tucked between high-rises to the increasing number of zero-waste stores and eco-conscious cafés, there’s a quiet but growing green movement. Public transportation is incredible, efficient, clean, and widely used, which makes getting around the city so much more sustainable than relying on cars.
What I loved most was how sustainability here isn’t just a trend, it’s slowly becoming part of everyday life. People are experimenting with reusable packaging, composting in community gardens, and reducing single-use plastics in creative ways. The government and local NGOs are also pushing programs that make it easier for businesses and residents to adopt greener habits.
Back home, life is equally full. I’m deep into studying for the final presentation of my master’s thesis while also preparing for a CFA certification. I’ve always loved studying, and I find myself constantly reflecting on what comes next after my master’s. I don’t have all the answers yet, but thinking about future possibilities keeps me motivated and curious.
Being in Hong Kong really made me reflect on the balance between urban life and sustainability. It’s not perfect, but it’s inspiring to see a city that’s trying and succeeding in some remarkable ways. After two weeks, I left imagining what it would be like to be part of that pulse every day… and maybe bring some of those ideas back home.
Hong Kong, you’ve stolen a piece of my heart and given me plenty of sustainable inspiration along the way. 🌱
